Peter Morris Unveils Cloud House

Architect Peter Morris has completed Cloud House, a self-designed residence in Gospel Oak, London. The project consists of two offset homes: one for Morris and his partner, producer Emily Kennedy, and another for a neighbor. Situated on the site of a demolished Victorian home, the structure is characterized by marshmallow-pink walls, sweeping arches, and turquoise detailing.

The aesthetic of the project was heavily influenced by a honeymoon spent in Miami, specifically drawing from the city's Art Deco architecture and its distinct color palettes. Morris intended the design to serve as an architectural tribute to his wife, incorporating the curves and hues observed during their trip.

The building’s forms also respond to the surrounding urban fabric, specifically the nearby Grade II-listed school and the Grade I-listed St Martin’s Church. Morris noted the influence of the eccentric, curved silhouettes found in these neighboring structures, which include a school frontage reminiscent of a Medieval castle and a highly decorative church interior.

The design emphasizes postmodernism through a deliberate use of color and pattern. Morris stated that the goal of the project was to create a building that provides a moment of joy for pedestrians, utilizing a visual language intended to trigger emotional responses through its variety and departure from traditional modernism.
